Part of a monograph series on fossils The publication, Lower Turonian Inoceramids from Sergipe, Brazil: Systematics, Sraigraphy and Palaeoecology, presents an account of inoceramid research by Hessel in the Sergipe Basin of eastern Brazil. Photos and drawings of inoceramids are featured.
Part of an series of monographs and memoirs in palaeontology and biostratigraphy The publication, Brachiopods from the Maastrichtian Danian Boundary Sequence, at Nye Klov, Jylland, Denmark is Number 20 in the international Fossils and Strata series.
Part of a series on palaeontology and biostratigraphy The publication, Taxonomy, Ecology and Identity of Conodonts, details the proceedings from the third European Conodont Symposium (ECOS III) in Lund, Sweden in 1982. Focused on microfossils, it's a scholarly article within the international Fossils and Strata series.
Part of a monograph series on fossils The publication, External Morphology and Larval Development of the Upper Cambrian Maxillopod Bredocaris Admirabilis, was issued within the international Fossils and Strata series.
Natural gas production from "shale" formations (fine-grained sedimentary rocks with relatively low permeability that can be rich sources of petroleum and natural gas) is one of the most rapidly-growing trends in U.S. domestic energy exploration and production. In some cases, this fast expansion has resulted in natural gas drilling and production activity in parts of the country that have seen little or no activity of this type in the recent past. "Natural Gas from Shale" explains the basics, including what shale gas is, where it's found, why it's important, how it's produced, and challenges associated with production. Also included are a list of frequently asked questions, a glossary of major terms, and a list of resources and links for additional information.
Part of a monograph series on fossils The publication, Strategraphic Correlation by Microfacies of the Cenomanian Coniacian of the Sergipe Basin, Brazil, gives an account of the results of research conducted by the authors on the Sergipe Basin around the coast of Brazil. The published findings are featured in the international Fossils and Strata series.
In 2001, the National Research Council (NRC) completed a congressionally mandated assessment of the benefits and costs of DOEa (TM)s fossil energy and energy efficiency R&D programs, Energy Research at DOE: Was It Worth It? The Congress followed this retrospective study by directing DOE to request the NRC to develop a methodology for assessing prospective benefits. The first phase of this projecta "development of the methodologya "began in December 2003. Phase two will make the methodology more robust and explore related issues, and subsequent phases will apply the methodology to review the prospective benefits of different DOE fossil energy and energy efficiency R&D programs. In developing this project, three considerations were particularly important. First, the study should adapt the work of the retrospective study. Second, the project should develop a methodology that provides a rigorous calculation of benefits and risks, and a practical and consistent process for its application. Third, the methodology should be transparent, should not require extensive resources for implementation, and should produce easily understood results. This report presents the results of phase one. It focuses on adaptation of the retrospective methodology to a prospective context.
